The Ghosts of Cape May, Book 2 (first edition) was released in 2006. When I finished Book 1, within a few months of release the emails started coming in asking, “When is Book 2 coming out?” The first edition of TGOCM was originally supposed to be the only edition, but that soon changed. It was a combination of reader interest, and the realization that Cape May was a virtual ghost town, that caused me to seek out more than the original 21 haunts I had investigated for Exit Zero and Book 1.
It’s not just the houses and hotels that are haunted in Cape May, the surf also has its share of paranormal energy. After all, Cape May has been a popular beach destination since the 1700s. Millions have come to enjoy Cape May’s cool beaches over the last 300 years and countless numbers have also met their demise in that surf. Shipwrecks, drownings, privateers way back when, murdering helpless crews and passengers and plundering their ships stuck in the sandbars. The ghosts in the surf have their own stories to tell and you may just encounter their icy reception next time you happen to be drifting calmly in the waters around Cape May. Cape May’s surf gives a whole new meaning to “six feet under.” Read all about these aquatic phantoms in The Ghosts of Cape May Book 2, plus learn about…
- The ancient specters who haunt The Colonial House, now called The Memucan Hughes House on Washington Street. This old tavern turned museum is home to The Greater Cape May Historical Society and more than one ghost. Many have spotted a shadowy figure peering down from the top windows. The Hughes family was one of the original whaler yeoman families that settled Cape May. Apparently, a few of the original clan are still hanging out in the attic at The Memucan Hughes House.
- The gang of dead children that haunt the old Cold Spring Cemetery, roaming around their final resting places, orphans of life, prisoners of the ghost realm.
- The Dead of South Cape May. For those who have strolled the peaceful strand called “the cove,” this isolated mile and a half strip of beach was once home to the Borough of South Cape May… before it was washed out to sea with various storms. The buildings may be gone, but the ghosts are still roaming about, including some very strong personalities at the old Army bunker that sits just at the water’s edge. Those who have psychic abilities can be especially bothered near this massive old concrete fortress, left over from World War II.
- The Ghosts of Jackson Street. One of America’s most haunted avenues and one of Cape May’s earliest surveyed roads is hopping with paranormal activity. Two walking tours and our trolley tours feature the ghosts here. More of the old buildings are haunted than are not! A truly paranormal pathway and you will feel like you are traversing right along with me (and the ghosts) as you turn the pages of Book 2.
Let’s not forget one of my favorite haunts and Bed & Breakfasts, The Mason Cottage (pictured right) Run by one of my favorite (living) innkeepers, Donna, The Mason Cottage never disappoints on the paranormal level! Here you may encounter up to four ghosts haunting this fabulous old Victorian “Mother/Daughter” home on Columbia Avenue. The ghost of Ed Warne and his servant, Flora, are sure to give you a chill as you read about their nocturnal wanderings to and from their old summer home by the sea. You may even spot the young ghost of a boy named Stephen, an orphan taken in by the other ghosts in the house. This is truly a special spectral spot!
The Ghosts of Cape May, Book 2 is my “middle child” of the series and has a special personality all to itself. I have written the three Ghosts of Cape May books to be read in order for the best learning curve to be achieved. There is also a special guide to understanding ghosts and hauntings in the beginning of this book. A must for anyone living!

LIMITED EDITION COVER (sold out)
For those of you lucky enough to have gotten the first edition of Book 2, with the limited run cover featuring The Memucan Hughes House (pictured left) you own a true collectible!
This first edition was a special run to honor the folks who work hard to preserve Cape May’s wonderful history. Without people like those at The Greater Cape May Historical Society, Cape May’s history would be lost for future generations.
The new, regular edition of Book 2 features the ominous doorway to the attic on the second floor of the old Memucan Hughes House. I never could understand all the ancient locks, were they trying to keep people out of the old attic? Or were they trying to lock something in! Are you the “sensitive type?” Go and take a tour of the old house, especially the upstairs, after you read about it in Book 2, it will give you goose bumps like never before!

I find that this book is my very favorite. Being Craig’s partner on all of these haunting investigations…I find that rereading these stories really makes me feel for the ghosts. Especially “The Paranormal Playground”…the chapter on the child ghosts of Cape May. Also I very much enjoyed the “Old House on Seashore Road”, this was a truly haunted house with handprints being found on the ceiling of a room and rather spooky EVP’s we picked up there. Book 2 rocks!!!
